Hook and Newnham Basics will face Rotherfield Park in the second semi-final of this year’s Guy Jewell Cup at May’s Bounty this (Thursday) evening (5.45pm), with the prize for the winners a place in the final against Basingstoke and North Hants.
Rotherfield Park knocked out holders Hartley Wintney to reach the final four, while Hook saw off Old Basing in their quarter-final clash, thanks to a half century from Matt Buckingham.
The final of the Guy Jewell Cup takes place on Sunday August 29 at May’s Bounty and it will be preceded by the Cyril Thompson Trophy final.   In that competition Andover and Oakley join Ramsdell in the semi-finals.
Andover enjoyed a 71-run victory over Kingsclere as they racked up a winning score of 201-5, thanks to an excellent 143 not out from Nathan Birks. Baba Veettil was the next best scorer on 27, while Mark Hirst took 2-37.
Kingsclere made 130-7 with James Prost top scoring with an unbeaten 37 and Dan Jones was unbeaten on 28.  Andrew Blanchard 3-22 and Hugo Orange 2-21 were pick of the Andover bowlers.
In the other game Overton were bowled out for 79  - Dan Sumner 3-10 and Clive Welsman 3-13 did the damage - and beaten by ten wickets by Oakley. An unbroken stand between Dan Sumner 44 and Will Cheyney 32 saw Oakley to victory.
This now means the semi finals of the Trophy will see Oakley play Ramsdell on Tuesday August 17 and then two days later Andover will play the winners of the outstanding quarter-final game between Chawton and Stratfield Turgis.  Both games are at May’s Bounty and start at 5.45pm.
