Sarisbury Athletic’s dreams of Lord’s and a place in next month’s National Village Cup final were dashed by a five-wicket semi-final defeat by twice winners Reed in North Hertfordshire.
The 2012 and 2017 winners will meet Barnsley-based Houghton Main on September 15 after overhauling Sarisbury’s 195-8 with ten balls to spare.
Ricky Rawlins, pictured, (63) and Matt Journeaux (40) top scored for Sarisbury, who fought back gamely after Reed had moved their reply to 86-1.
Sarisbury were back in the game after a double strike by Josh Hill (2-53) and one apiece from Jason Allmark and Tom Kitcher saw four wickets fall for 15 runs.
But Sarisbury were unable to break the unbroken sixth wicket stand of 93 between Stuart Smith (43) and Mitch Cooper (52) which saw Reed through to their third Lord’s final in eight years.
