Sarisbury Athletic are set to hand veteran left-armer Dan Goldstraw his first outing of the season in tomorrow’s Southern Premier League Division 1 decider against Bournemouth at Allotment Road.
To all intents and purposes, Goldstraw (pictured above by Roy Honeybone) stopped playing regularly after becoming the third bowler to notch 500 SPL wickets.
But the 507-scalp man makes the occasional appearance – it’s his first game for two seasons - and is expected to join the Sarisbury attack for the ‘must win’ visit of Chris Park’s Lions.
It’s a match Sarisbury must win if they are to trim Bournemouth’s 26-point lead at the top of the table.
If Bournemouth win at Allotment Road – where Tom Webb returns and former Dorset Under-17 batsman Jamie Price makes his first appearance – they will be in an unassailable position at the top.
Sarisbury Athletic: Rawlins, Clouting, Mills, Journeaux, J Hill, Bond, Wright, Haynes, Goldstraw, Kitcher, S Hill.
Bournemouth: C Park, West, N Park, Webb, Price, Denham, Hurley, Pack, Warner, Conway, Clutterbuck.
OTs & Romsey head off to the Isle of Wight to Ventnor’s scenic Steephill bowl minus skipper Jody Brown, but virtually free of the threat of relegation.
A convincing eight-wicket win over Hartley Wintney made them all but mathematically safe, but plunged near rivals Calmore Sports into trouble.
OTs & Romsey: Mitchell-Lee, Vaughan, Woodhall, Tulk, R Newman, Tognarelli, King, P Newman, Mogg, J Trodd, Bampton.
If Village Cup Lord’s finalists Liphook & Ripsley win at all but relegated Hartley Wintney, the losers of the Hook & Newnham Basics-Calmore Sports duel at the KGV will be in serious relegation trouble.
Hook are boosted by the return of Josh Buckingham after a broken hand.
Calmore Sports: Lavelle, Cook, Wright, Johns, Manning, Perry, Proudley, West, Woodhall, Vann, Newton.
Mid-table Andover, still glancing anxiously over their shoulders, face a tough test against Portsmouth at St Helen’s, where Ali Hooper slips into the run scoring shoes of the prolific Will Arnold.
Andover: M Hooper, Hart, Treagus, A Hooper, Ayers, Romer-Lee, Ballantine-Dykes, Knight, Adams, Jansen.
