GUERNSEY PLANS TO STAGE 'SOCIAL DISTANCING' T20 MATCH

Guernsey Cricket plans to stage an exhibition match as early as next weekend to demonstrate the sport can be played safely with social distancing measures in place.
The GCB has submitted a proposal to local public health officials for a T20 match to take place at the KGV next Saturday 30 May, the day Guernsey is set to move into phase four of its 'exit from lockdown' framework.
Guernsey Cricket said it has put forward a series of measures to satisfy public health requirements:
• New ball at each end
• Wicket-keepers not allowed to stand within 1m of the stumps
• No use of changing rooms
• Players to arrive separately
• No sharing of equipment
• Umpires to wear gloves and disinfect the ball between overs
• No high fives or hand shakes
It has been 23 consecutive days since the island's last new positive case of coronavirus, while there are now just two active cases remaining.
If permitted, next week's match could be the first game of competitive cricket played in the British Isles this summer, with cricket in England suspended until at least 1 July and until 1 August in Scotland.
It is set to involve two teams drawn from Guernsey's senior island squad, who have been allowed to work with coaches one-one-one for the last week.
