Hambledon's Justin Behrens enjoyed a fine summer [The News]
Hambledon ended the season in championship form with four straight wins, but were unable to overhaul Ventnor, who achieved survival when they finished seven points above them in the Southern Premier League Division 1 log.
The Dons gave themselves a chance of avoiding the drop wih successive wins over Andover, Sarisbury Athletic and Portsmouth but despite inflciting a 103-run defeat on relegated New Milton were unable to climb out of the bottom two.
Second wicket pair Chris Pratt (42) and South African Justin Behrens (53) set the scene for Hambledon's 201 (Dan Loader 4-36) at Fernhill, where New Milton were 25-4 soon after tea. Ryan Beck (39) top scored in their 98 all out, Spencer LeClerq taking 3-10.
Behrens finished his debut SPL season with 568 runs and 32 wickets - statistics the Western Province spin all-rounder hopes will attract interest from Premier Division clubs in 2024.
