Ethan Martin is returning to his Rowledge roots having led the Hampshire Academy to their maiden ECB Southern Premier League championship triumph last summer.
In 2021 and 2023, he captured over 90 wickets for Rowledge and the Hampshire Pathway sides but missed a summer due to a spinal stress fracture. Recovered, he led the Academy last season and finished it clutching a Premier Division winners medal.
Charlie Freeston, Hampshire's Head of Player Development, praised: “Ethan played a lot of cricket in 2024, and did an excellent job in guiding the team to their first SPL title. Across his 2nd XI and Academy performances, he was a real asset for Hampshire Cricket in 2024”.
Martin produced two stand out performances during his spell at the Utilita Bowl, initially in 2022 with the bat, hitting an unbeaten 78 and featuring strongly in a remarkable and unbroken tenth-wicket stand of 98 with Oli Cordery as the Academy (chasing 178) recovered from a desperate 79-9 to beat Havant by one wicket.
Then in last season's winner-take-all final match of the season against South Wilts, he took three
top order wickets to finish 3-30 and help pave the way to the Academy winning the league.
"I will be good to have Ethan back. The experience he gained with Hampshire should hold him in good stead in what has all the makings of a very competitive Division 1," reflected Rowledge skipper Ben Wish.
Rowledge begin their programme against relegated Havant at School Road on May 3.
