Seventeen year old Finn Gordon struck a majestic 128 as the Hampshire Academy comfortably outscored Bashley (Rydal) at the Fagan/BCG to bowl the New Forest club off the top of the ECB Southern Premier League. Their 'winning' draw gives them a slender one-point lead at the resumption of 50-over 'white ball' cricket on August 3.
The teenager left-hander, late of Clayesmore School, scored a second hundred the following day for Dorset against Wales NC at Ebbw Vale.
Gordon, whose hundred included 12 fours and three sixes, shared partnerships with fellow opener Sam Ashman (35), Dom Kelly (54) and Bradfield's Andrew MacEwen (64) as the Academy marched to 347-6.
Reflecting on Finn's knock, elder sibling Jacob, who took 3-83 for Bashley, said: "He batted very well. The flat BCG deck helped. but was a chanceless knock. You couldn't fault the way he batted. He timed his innings very well and knew when he needed to attack or soak up pressure.
"Frustratingly for me, he manipulated the field very well and made it difficult for me to set fields and bowlers to stick to the plan."
Saif Achakzai (32) and Jack Stearman (32) were among the Bashley batsmen to make positive starts, but spinner Zack Basey (4-61) continued to create inroads and at 153-6 the hosts weren't in great shape. But Ben Walker's beaten 51 calmed nerves and Bashley played out time at 216-7.
