Hampshire’s Joe Weatherley is returning to his roots to boost St Cross Symondians’ ECB Southern Premier League title claims.
Weatherley, who is in the misfiring Southern Brave squad but hasn’t played in the 100 yet, will pick up a bat in anger for the first time since Hampshire’s win over Yorkshire at Scarborough in late July, against relegation favourites Hook & Newnham Basics at the KGV.
A junior at the Green Jackets in his embryo cricketing days, Weatherley last played for St Cross virtually 12 months ago to the day, making 64 in a win at Burridge.
St Cross lead the Premier Division table by eight points, with Hook way adrift at the bottom, but no mathematically relegated.
The teams meet again in the T20 Cup semi-final on Sunday, 3pm.
Hook & Newnham Basics: Warner, Lockwood, Robson, Buckingham M, Buckingham J, James, Simpson, Divechi, Neville, Murrell, Willcocks.
St Cross Symondians: Ellis, Gywnn, Foyle, Foyle, Trussler, Lewis, Weatherley, Whillock, Haworth, Beer, Bransgrove.
Second placed Hampshire Academy are without England U19 call-ups Eddie Jack and Dom Kelly against a far stronger Lymington on the Ageas Bowl Nursery Ground.
Thrashed out of sight by St Cross last week, Lymington’s are more or less back to full strength.
Lymington: Crabb, Rogers, Scott, C Moors, Royan, K Dhariwal, J Dhariwal, D Cox, A Wheble, K Moors, G Layman.
There’s a second T20 Cup semi-final dress rehearsal at the BCH where Bashley (Rydal), whose low lying ground was submerged b the midweek downpours, host Havant.
Bashley (Rydal): Goodey, Tripcony, Francis, Porter, Saif, Digby, Trodd, G Wilson, S Wilson, Penycate, Fletcher.
Havant: Hopson, Loat, Walker, H Gadd, Metzger, Stone, Hindley, H Barnard, S Barnard, Jerry, H Gadd.
Bournemouth expect Dan Conway to return from new-born parental duties for the visit of Burridge, who are chasing a third straight win, while Ben Draper looks to arrest a three-loss decline of defending champions South Wilts, who host Totton & Eling.
Left-arm quick Josh Croom needs two more poles to celebrate 50 SPL wickets for the season, while Tom Morton (964) and Jack Stearman (908) are homing in on 1,000 Premier Division runs, a milestone only achieved once before by BAT Sports’ Kiwi Neal Parlane, who made 1,074 in 2003.
Comfortably ahead, Sarisbury Athletic will take another significant step towards the Division 1 title with a win at lowly New Milton, while second placed Alton aim to keep their hopes alive at youthful Sparsholt. But Michael Heffernan, Tom South and Huw Wheeler are all missing.
Alton: Gonella, Harris, H Gadsby, Myers, Egleston, Heffernan, Hale, Walters, Salmon, Vincent, Z Gadsby.
Rowledge are desperate to end a five-match losing run at Ventnor, but the Ryman brothers are missing. Postie Chris Russell hopes to deliver for Ventnor.
Rowledge: Ben Wish, Jake wish, Zac Leroux, Jontie Seeborn, Ricky Yates, Richard Forbes, Ollie Baker, David Lloyd, Ash Harvey, Ryan Littlewood, Max Martin.
Well beaten by Liphook & Ripsley last week, Calmore Sports look to bounce back when Portsmouth visit Loperwood Park, where Steve Wright aims to highlight his batting skills once again.
