At the turn of the year skipper Pete Green wondered if Hampshire Seniors would have sufficient players to field a regular Seventies side in the National Championships – but they’ve played five times so far, winning the first matches.
Ian Watson, left, the former Deanery opening batsman, continues to live and breath cricket, posting two scores of 60-plus in addition to un unbeaten hundred against Devon. No surprise he’s in the England 70s squad.
Pat Wickson’s batting resembles that of a ‘revived 45’ (in music DJ speak), while Tony Adams, Green himself and Andy Yorke have all made handy contributions with the bat.
Predictably, injuries are beginning to mount with John Goodchild and Green left limping after yesterday’s defeat by Surrey at Cadnam.
Results –
