Hampshire Under-17s were skittled for 90 and trailed their Surrey counterparts by 85 runs at the end of day one of the ECB County Championship semi-final at Totton & Eling.
Put into bat in bowler friendly conditions at Southern Gardens, Hampshire ran into immediate trouble against tall left-armer Steve Hunt (4-25), who quickly removed Tom Prest and Fletcha Middleton.
Only Toby Albert (19), Jamie Regan (15), Harry Broderick (14) and Tom South (12) got into double figures as Hampshire were dismissed for 90 inside 40 overs.
Surrey were reduced to 46-4, but Ashtead’s Ben Geddes hit 68 to put the visitors firmly in the driving seat at 175-8 at stumps. James Trodd took 3-28.
