Emerging Hartley Wintney talent Harry Broderick produced an often brutal display of power hitting, scoring a career-best 189 as the Hampshire Academy struck a wilting Dorset Under-17 attack for a staggering 340-5 off 40 overs at Totton & Eling’s Southern Gardens.
T
he 17-year old all-rounder, who is in his first year at the Ageas Bowl academy, struck six maximums and 24 fours, scoring 132 of his 189 in boundaries.
Broderick, who brought up his 150 with a straight six, dominated a massive 260-run second wicket partnership with George Metzger (93) before Charlie Mumford chipped in with an unbeaten 27.
Poole Town raised Sam Crisp took 3-47 before a largely inexperienced Dorset made 135-6 in reply (Jack Barker 51 not out), with Havant left-arm spinner Freddie Gadd taking 4-15.
Hampshire, who play a two-day game against Surrey YCs at Andover’s London Road on Sunday/Monday (11am), won by 205 runs having also beaten their Dorset neighbours by nine wickets on Tuesday.
Spinner Kamran Khanna returned 3-18 as Dorset made 148-6 – Lewis Freak 30 not out and Joseph Eckland 28 – a target Hampshire polished off with Tom South (71) and Fletcha Middleton (67) sharing an unbroken 150-run stand.
