Havant’s hopes of a quick return to the top table of Southern Premier League cricket have taken another hit.
After winning seven of their opening eight completed Division 1 fixtures, Chris Morgan’s men were battling it out with Sarisbury for top spot.
Now three successive defeats, the latest by two wickets against Totton & Eling, have left them down in fourth spot – 38 points behind Sarisbury with just five games remaining.
Chris Stone was agonisingly close to his sixth Havant century when his side were bowled out for 231 at Southern Gardens. He hit nine fours and four sixes off 127 balls before he fell for 96, caught by keeper Alvin Ditole off the bowling of Brighton Mugochi.
Richard Hindley (35) was next highest against Bothwell Chapungu (3-35) and Mugochi (3-38), who shared six of the wickets..
T & E also lost an opener cheaply, Joe Baker bowled by Rob Woolley for a duck, but South African Ditoli hit 46 off 47 balls to give the reply a quick start.
Billy Blyghton (42) and James Taylor (31) added 70 for the fourth wicket, before Ethan Taylor and Rajat Parmar put on another 51 for the sixth. Taylor junior top scored, his 46 coming off 33 balls with five fours and three sixes.
T & E only needed 16 when Taylor Jnr departed, and they still had 7.2 overs left when the winning run was hit. The News.

Ventnor are up to third, averaging 16.09, thanks to Dinesh Thimodya’s latest century. The Sri Lankan compiled a superb 140 not out as the Isle of Wight club reached their 267 target for the loss of eight wickets against Hook & Newnham Basics at the KGV.
It was his sixth hundred of 2025 and his third in the SPL Division 1, after scores of 127 not out and 122 against Waterlooville.
Thimodya smacked 14 fours and six sixes in his 138-ball masterpiece. With Ventnor requiring 25 off the last three overs, he calmed nerves by hitting two fours and a six off the 48th over bowled by Will Wyatt.
Tom May (58) and Ollie Webster (54) hit half-centuries for Hook alongside Wyatt (35) and Matt Buckingham (33). George Watts took 3-45.
It's crunch time for Hook & Newnham Basics, who have slipped precariously close to the relegation zone after losing their last four matches.
They visit fellow strugglers Rowledge on Saturday (1230) only ten points clear of the drop zone - and badly in need of a win, as indeed are their hosts..
