Hook & Newnham Basics are celebrating their first ‘time pennant’ success at only the second time of asking in the ECB Southern Premier League.
Josh Buckingham’s side took a step into the known when they lost their initial all day ‘time’ match by 112 runs at Havant, but they bounced back with a 55-run victory over Burridge, who are anchored to the league basement without a win in six tries.
The margin of victory, which lifted Josh Buckingham’s side to seventh place, would have been greater but for a half-century tenth wicket stand which took the Burridge reply to 179. Hook earlier made 234.
The hobbling Richard Willcock (50) overcame a hamstring injury, which caused him to retire hurt during the morning session, to top score for Hook.
He initially opened with Ben Thane (27) and left Harry Robson (41) to take the fight to Burridge. Willcock reappeared later, supporting Buckingham (41) as Hook moved on to 234 all out.
New ball seamers Sully White (4-41) and Dan Stancliffe (4-76) shared eight of the Hook wickets, but were upstaged by Max Simpson (3-27), whose pace and accuracy proved too much for the visitors, Azim (12), Joe Collings-Wells (19) and skipper Hilio De Abreu (0) falling.
Burridge dipped to 40-4 and soon after 65-5 when Cape Town teenager Nathan Schultz - who had hit 90 the previous week against Lymington - was out for 14, the first of four Aniket Divecha victims.
Chris Blake (34) and Will Donald (20) added 47 for the sixth wicket, but Burridge were 121-9 when last man White joined Stancliffe.
White (33) and Stancliffe (28 not out) showed their top order how it should be done, but their 10th wicket stand was just delaying the inevitable and Burridge were dismissed for 179.
