Hook & Newnham Basics starlet Ollie Webster [above] smashed an unbeaten 86 off 48 balls to steer Hampshire Under-16s to a thrilling four-wicket win over Cornwall in a decisive ECB Cup tie in the East Woodhay rain.
He was at the crease with Hampshire in a pickle at 24-4 having been set to score a DLS calculated 151 off 20 overs.
But, partnered by Basingstoke & North Hants youngster Abdullah Abid in a 116-run partnership, Webster took control, hitting three sixes and 12 fours in a blistering innings.
Abid scored a maiden fifty for Basingstoke in the ECB Southern Premier League last weekend.
The pair took Hampshire within touching distance of victory and a place in the national quarter-finals as runners-up behind group winners, Wales.
Cornwall, who would have progressed to the last eight with a victory, earlier made 136-2 in 31 overs, Hampshire having to bowl in wet and greasy conditions. Photo Ian Thacker.
