Will Parvin cracked a gallant and an unbeaten 97 only to finish on the losing side as Hambledon fell 12 runs short chasing Havant’s 164-7 in the HCB Kerry Cup county Under-17 competition.
He pierced the boundary rope 12 times, steering Hambledon to a creditable 152-3 after left-hander Oli Perkins (67) had underpinned Havant’s 164-7 (Charlie Whitfield 31).
Fair Oak’s Monty McKenzie wasn’t far behind Parvin, hitting an unbeaten 84 in his team’s 172-4 – a total which proved way beyond Fleet, who made 87-8 in reply (Goodyear 3-25).
Portsmouth were the second round’s top scorers with 192-3 against Grayshott (95-8), Joe Smitherman hitting an unbeaten 65, Matt Walton 53 not out and Jack Collett 40.
Parley ran up a sizeable 188-8 before skittling New Milton for 74, while Aldershot (168-2) beat Graywood (140-5) and cup holders Sway & Lymington chased down Totton & Eling’s 117-6 (Francis Moore 43), with Dan Bailey (45) and Josh Royan (42) to the fore.
Alton gifted Basingstoke & North Hants a staggering 41 extras, but still beat the junior Bountymen by eight wickets – Ellis Ballinger (4-19) and Nathan Vincent (3-10) doing the damage. Sam Bridger (52) hit an unbeaten half-century as Alton cruised past Basingstoke’s 110 for the loss of two wickets.
