South Wilts sit proudly top of the ECB Southern Premier League after winning all four of their completed ‘white ball’ 50-over pennant matches.
They had their opening match against the Hampshire Academy on May 2 rain abandoned, but have gone on to beat Portsmouth, Alton and Bashley (Rydal) before recording an emphatic 71-run victory over Bournemouth.
Josh Chippendale and Trish Francis made 60-plus scores as South Wilts recovered from losing three cheap wickets to post 244 and then bowl Bournemouth out for 173 and win by 71 runs.
James Degg and Tom Grant shared eight of the Bournemouth wickets as the Lions slipped to a second consecutive defeat.
“Beating Bournemouth was an excellent win, one which hopefully puts down a marker as they are one of the teams fancied to do well,” smiled South Wilts skipper Ben Draper.
“To make 244 with James Degg and Tom Cheater out for ducks and Harry Broderick for just three showed real heart and determination.

“Josh Chippendale, the club’s overseas signing from Cape Town, made 68 and added 70 with me. He batted superbly showing his class again and pointed us towards a competitive score.”
The developing Archie Fairfax-Ross (32) and Matt Falconer (18) added useful runs before Trish Francis hit an explosive 67 (three sixes and four 4s) to push South Wilts to a competitive total.
Spinner Alfie Appleby-Ingram (3-30), who opened the Bournemouth bowling with James Brehaut (3-54) in an all left-arm attack, spearheaded a promising response with an 11-boundary 71.

At the half-way stage of their reply, Bournemouth were 114-1, with Rj Jhala (28), but once Degg (4-26) had the little Indian caught, the innings crumbled.
And when Appleby-Ingram was run out by Fairfax-Ross at 151-3, Bournemouth’s reply went into a tailspin.
In four catastrophic overs, six wickets fell for five runs to Degg and Grant (4-26) leaving Bournemouth 156-9.
Last man Josiah Edy (11) added handy runs, but Bournemouth were beaten long before then.
