Talk about snatching victory from the jaws of defeat !
With Lymington 141-2 chasing 206-9, there appeared little prospect of South Wilts' remaining top of the ECB Southern Premier League.
But in the final hour at the town sports ground, Lymington contrived to lose eight wickets for 64 runs and finish one-run losers.
The last two dismissals saw Lymington tailenders caught on the boundary rope with the vastly experienced Gareth Berg marooned on 39 not out at the non-striker's end.
The result enabled South Wilts to retain a nine-point lead over the Hampshire Academy, with everything pointing towards a head-to-head championship decider on the Nursery Ground on Saturday week.
South Wilts found themselves in early trouble at 20-3 - Berg striking twice with the new ball - but rallied in middle-order through Ben Draper (52), Harry Broderick (31) and Archie Fairfax-Ross (36).
But a four-wicket spell by Alvin Cameron (4-45) plunged South Wilts back into trouble at 160-9, leaving Australian Ryan Freeman to make an unbeaten 43.
Freeman added a crucial 46 with Henry Dunlop for the tenth wicket to lift South Wilts towards a competitive 206-9.
Jovan Dhariwal (55) and Mo Abbas (42) were instrumental in taking Lymington's reply to 141-2, when Tom Pearce (3-34) began to make inroads with his left-arm spin.
Lymington wobbled, but while Berg remained at the crease they appeared favourites. Alas, some of his teammates decided to go for their own glory shots.
At 192-8 and with plenty of time to spare, Adelaide left-armer Liam Thompson picked out Fairfax-Ross on the boundary and, with Berg still there and now only two runs to win, Cameron repeated the shot and was caught by the same fielder. Lymington 205 all out. Berg's thought unprintable ...
