Any prospect Totton & Eling had of recording a third successive win since their promotion to the ECB Southern Premier Division were effectively hashed when they lost half their wickets with only 34 runs on the Southern Gardens electronic scoreboard.
They were eventually dismissed for 145 by Lymington, who successfully defended a modest 167 and notch their first win.
New Zealander James Hartshorn (3-42) nipped out Hampshire prospect Fletcha Middleton and former Berkshire batsman Harry Stephens with consecutive deliveries, while the tall, imposing Guy Layman (3-18) removed Bothwell Chapungu, Conor Griffiths and Ethan Taylor as Totton lurched to 34-5.
Solent University student Jaidel Richardson (32) revived Totton’s fortunes and with Sam Bracey (27) lifted the side to a challenging 122-7. Off-spinner Dan Cox (4-37) had both players caught, but Brighton Mugochi remained a massive threat as all the time he remained at the crease, Totton could have won. He smacked five fours and two sixes in a rapid 41 not out but, fortunately for Lymington, he ran out of partners !
Earlier, Lymington began brightly but after reaching 31-0 (Ben Rogers 21) but after Richardson (3-17) had dismissed both openers, the middle-order gave way to the left-arm spin of Mugochi (4-32). Lymington lurched to 91-6 before Oxford University’s Josh Royan (46) added a crucial 49 with shoulder injured Ben Attrill (21) to guide Lymington towards their eventual 167 all out (Tom Varney 2-47).
