Mark Lavelle will captain Calmore Sports for a sixth successive year in 2020 – making him the longest serving Southern Premier League skipper by some distance !
He led Calmore to the 2016 Division 2 championship and then the 2017 SPL1 title at the first attempt, scoring close on 2,300 runs and taking 231 wickets since cementing a regular spot in the first team in 2010.
Lavelle, left, who won the SPL2 bowling award in 2016, has enjoyed possibly the best economical bowling record in the entire Premier League in recent seasons, conceding 2.50 runs per over in 2017 and 2.62 this past summer. His miserly off-spin has been rewarded with over 30 wickets in each of the past three seasons.
Lavelle will lead Calmore out onto both the Southern Premier and Hampshire League’s Most Improved Ground in 2020, groundsman Joe Weston’s nine-month stint at Loperwood Park having coincided with a major upturn in marks – and prestigious awards from both leagues.
