Matt Hooper's five-wicket haul, followed by a match winning 91 by Sanjeet Garood, led Andover to victory at Parley and off the foot of Southern Premier Division 2. It lifted the Lions above Fawley and Sparsholt ahead of Saturday's significant trip to Holbury.
Sam Collins (65) and Alex Nippard (38) were prominent at the start for Parley, who fell apart against Hooper, who delivered a magnificent spell. Finding excellent rhythm, varying his pace and flight superbly, Hooper finish with outstanding figures of 5-35 from his 10 overs.
It was Hooper's best haul since Calmore Sports in July 2018 and caused Parley to crash from a promising 116-1 to 142-7.
While Ollie Green counter-attacked with a fluent 54 and Tom Blackley added an unbeaten 22 late on, Andover’s disciplined bowling ensured the hosts were restricted to 234-9 from their 50 overs.
Andover’s reply was built around an outstanding innings from Sanjeet Garood, who has been studying at Loughborough University. After early wickets left the visitors 66-3, he produced a composed and authoritative knock of 91 from 97 deliveries, striking 15 boundaries in an innings that combined patience with positive stroke play.
He first shared an important partnership with Eduardo Martins, whose brisk 35 helped steady the chase, before adding a decisive stand with Zimbabwean Nyasha Mayavo, who matched Garood’s attacking intent with an entertaining 52 from just 43 balls, including eight fours and a six, putting Andover firmly in control. Max Souter's 28 not out ensured no late alarms.
