Captain Ed Berry played bridegroom on Friday and was Tichborne Park’s best man against Trojans 24 hours later.
A day after marrying his long-time sweetheart Daisy, Ed starred with bat and ball as Tichborne opened their Southern Premier Division 3 campaign with a 38-run victory over Trojans.
With the wedding bells still ringing in his ears, Berry struck 76 in a match defining 141-run opening partnership with Ed Primmer (70) as Tichborne posted a heathy 213-4 off 40 overs.
Having tied the knot the previous day, Berry then tied the Trojans batting in knots with a 5-20 return with the ball.
Success wasn’t immediate, however, as Nigel le Bas (42) and Oli Kelly (40) took Trojans reply to 92-1 before spinner Berry, coming on as fourth change, ripped through the Stoneham top order, as the visitors slipped to 175-9 by stumps.
