Hampshire Under-14 starlet Ben Mayes (left) underlined his enormous potential with a match winning batting performance which swept Totton & Eling to a 21-run win over Hambledon in last night's Hampshire Under-17 Kerry Cup final at May's Bounty.
KES VI student Mayes, who played a year down in last month's ECB Under-15 Bunbury Festival at Loughborough, cracked 73 off 38 balls including five sixes and looked as though he might notch his fourth century of the summer when he lost the strike during the closing stages of Totton's 162-4.
Max Connolly (30), Leo Taylor (19) and Charlie Bedford (19) provided support as Totton batted Hambledon out of the match.
Hambledon needed a significant innings from one of their top order if they were to challenge the Totton total, but the best they could manage were useful knocks by Archie Rushin (28) and Jonas Waktare (20). They closed 141-8
Totton & Eling beat Bashley (Rydal), Sparsholt and Alton in the previous rounds.
