Old Tauntonians & Romsey all-rounder Rob Newman struck his first Southern Premier League century in four seasons to set up a 47-run win over promoted Hambledon at the Romsey Sports Centre.
Struggling against the spin of little Ollie Bembridge (4-42) and South African Justin Behrens (3-22), OTs were 117-5 when Newman arrived at the crease to hit a six and 19 fours, an innings which shaped an eventual 260.
Henry Glanfield (90) and Behrens (59) hit back for Hambledon, but a telling spell of 4-25 by Hampshire’s Chris Wood ended their resistance at 213 all out.
Sarisbury Athletic’s powerful batting line up prevailed in a 65-run win at Totton & Eling, where Jack Robson [44], Ricky Rawlins [38], and Nathan Feltham [36] top scored for the visitors. Brighton Mugochi [75] responded for Totton.
