With one solitary win from 12 outings this summer, Liphook & Ripsley have enjoyed few positives - but one came along in the shape of Hampshire U15 batsman Henry Amis against Ventnor at Steephill.
After surviving a mean new-ball spell by Chris Russell (0-19 off ten), Amis hit 82 and shared a handsome opening partnership with Ryan Covey (68) before Liphook fell away from 173-1 (Giles Cover 31) to 225-9 (Dineth Thimodya 5-47).
When Ventnor dropped to 78-6, it looked odds-on a Liphook victory, but Martin Blackman changed the course of the game with a superb 83 not out. Ventnor were still far from out of the woods at 142-7, but Russell's quick fire 34 not out proved crucial.

Joe Oates took 4-49 with the ball but was unableto influence a run chase as Basingstoke & North Hants went down by 21 runs to mid-table Southern Premier Division 1 rivals Portsmouth on Southsea seafront.
The interim Basingstoke captain went for a fourth ball duck as the Bountymen lost three wickets for one run from 53-1 to 54-4 (Jalill 2-44).
Callum Coombs (33) steadied the ship before a 77-run stand between Dean Nurse (56) and Brad Neal (46) threatened to put Basingstoke in the ascendancy.
Neal fell at 131 and when Nurse perished at 174 the end was nigh. They were eventually 197 all out.
Sri Lankan all-rounder Minhaj Jalill top scored with 63 as Portsmouth posted 218-7.
Jack Marston (28) and James Mitchell (23) made top order starts before Warner (22 off 14 balls) and Joe Kooner-Evans (19 not out off 18) provided late impetus. Extras (29) were the second top scorer, though.
