Simon Beetham, pictured, has stepped down as Lymington captain, with lead all-rounder Matt Metcalfe celebrating his first match at the helm with a surprise three-wicket win over title chasing South Wilts.
Beetham had been Lymington’s captain for the past five seasons, having scored 1,524 runs and taken 128 wickets since joining the New Forest club in 2010.
He didn’t play in the Bemerton victory, but sent a congratulatory text message to his team-mates after Lymington had bowled South Wilts out for 210 and won by three wickets, with his successor Metcalfe hitting a key 30 not out. It was only Lymington’s fourth win in 13 matches this season.
