Bad weather wrecked the Southern Premier League programme for the second consecutive week, with St Cross Symondians the only club to complete a match.
Overnight rain led to seven all-out cancellations, with 12 games being abandoned as some pretty nasty weather, culminating in one or two rather violent hailstorms, swept across the region.
Bashley (Rydal), Lymington and South Wilts had all made positive starts in the Premier Division before the rains came, with Bash 73-1, Ben Rogers firing a quick-fire 41 for Lymington (62-2 v Havant) and Tom Morton hitting a six and five fours in an unbeaten 41 for South Wilts against Hook & Newnham Basics.
Bournemouth’s trip to Alton – arguably the longest in the Premier Division – was called off without a ball being bowled, but at least one of two of the young Lions were able to see a steam train for the first time in their lives as the Watercress Line chugged past.
Totton & Eling newcomer Harry Stevens hit an unbeaten half-century as Sparsholt’s bowlers came under the pump at Southern Gardens – the hosts piling up 100-1 off 17.2 overs.
The matches at Calmore and New Milton didn’t last long, while Andover and Basingstoke & North Hants were washed out altogether.
A truncated day saw the top two individual performances in SPL2, where Ryan Covey was ten runs short of his century at 90 not out when Liphook & Ripsley were halted at 166-3 after 36 overs at Paultons. Rhys Oxley took 6-17 as OTs & Romsey were rolled for 100 by Fair Oak.
Teenager Josh Coombs made his second consecutive half-century for Basingstoke & North Hants (153-5) at Trojans, while P & S actually got a match underway for the first time. Jack Davies cashed in before Tichborne Park retreated in the rain.
