
The England & Wales Cricket Board has announced its Guidelines relating to the return of recreational cricket this weekend.
Cricket is the first team sport that has been granted approval by the government to return to an adapted match play programme and this is fantastic news.
This announcement brings with it a huge level of responsibility for us all. Collectively as a game we must do all we can to keep everyone involved safe at all times. It is immensely important that clubs read all of the guidelines thoroughly, as it is on the basis of these being followed that the government has approved the return of the game.
The guidelines cover a number of areas of the game, including:
• Pre-match adaptations regarding transport and symptom checking.
• In-game adaptations applying to social distancing measures, hygiene, match officials and the use of equipment.
• Post-game adaptations, including the potential use of club facilities.
• Advice for coaches specific to individual sessions and junior cricket.

Guidelines include -
- hygiene breaks every 20 minutes/six overs for ball cleaning;
- running lanes for batsmen 2m each side of the playing area;
- if rain stops play, players are encouraged to return to their vehicle; and
- don't forget to bring your own tea and a bucket of water to wash in afterwards !
