Left-hand duo Sam Floyd and Sam Hill powered Sarisbury Athletic into the national phase of the Village Cup with a comprehensive 86-run win over Liphook & Ripsley, last season’s beaten Lord’s finalists, at Allotment Road.
Floyd batted almost the entire length of Sarisbury’s 171-9, hitting ten fours in a patient 85.
Sarisbury were contained initially by a miserly eight-over spin spell by Dave Elliott, who took 3-18 off his eight overs.
But Floyd’s fruitful stands with Chris Sanders (19) and Michael Bond ensured that Sarisbury rose from an uncertain 43-3 to 132-4 before closing at 171-9.
Liphook began confidently enough through Rob Nicklin (23), but a three-wicket burst by Jason Allmark (3-11) followed by a five-wicket return by teenage left-arm spinner Sam Hill (5-10) sent eight wickets crashing for 28 runs and the visitors to 85 all out.
