The Hampshire Academy’s teenage batsmen scored 154 runs in boundaries as they chased down Hook & Newnham Basics’ 214 all out to clinch the runners-up spot in the ECB Southern Premier League with seven-wicket win at the KGV.
Hook rallied from 51-5 (Harry Robson 34) with Charlie Neville (54 not out) and Jack Murrell (50) hitting fifties.
But Hook’s total was blown away inside 26 overs, with Tom Cheater hitting four sixes and eight fours in a blistering 65 at the top of the order.
Wilf La Fontaine-Jackson (40) and Jude Wright (27) added to Hook woe before left-hander Archie Fairfax-Ross emerged from the KGV pavilion to launch a boundary assault on the Basics’ bowlers.
The left-hander cleared the boundary open four times alongside scoring five other boundaries in his 53 not out. He finished proceedings with a big six into the undergrowth off Max Simpson.
