A sixth straight win has lifted BASINGSTOKE & NORTH HANTS to third place, 14 points behind lead pair Calmore Sports and Totton & Eling.
Standing (from left): Matt Donaldson, Ash Neal, Matt Deadman, Laurence Benge, Dean Nurse, Greg Donaldson, Brad Neal, Ted Pearson (scorer). Seated: Tyler Bradley, Dan Belcher (Cpt), Joe Oates, Rakitha Perera.
Greg Donaldson smashed seven sixes in hitting 57 runs off 29 deliveries in a blistering pre-tea assault as Basingstoke & North Hants powered to a 118-run win over Southern Premier Division 1 strugglers St Cross Symondians II at Winchester’s Green Jacket Ground.
It was Stoke’s sixth successive victory and took them up to third place in the log behind Calmore Sports, who enjoy the slenderest of leads over near neighbours Totton & Eling.
Basingstoke had already built themselves a fine platform through top order stands Dan Belcher (45) enjoyed with fellow opener Matt Deadman (29) and Ash Neal (45).
But they had slipped from 118-1 to 146-5 when Donaldson arrived at the crease.
He took an immediate liking to spinner Dave Orchard (4-71), who took the brunt of his six-hit assault, before the St Cross Symondians skipper got his own way with three late wickets.
Basingstoke’s total of 226 was always going to be far beyond a depleted St Cross, who slumped to 35-6 against teenager Tyler Bradley (4-26) and left-arm spinner Rakitha Perera (3-26), who was on a hat-trick at one point. Charlie Harden (45) and Orchard (18) added 52 to give Symondians’ 108 an air of respectability.
