Will Harries starred as South Wilts clinched a place in Sunday’s ECB national indoor sixes cricket regional play-offs at Taunton by winning the Wiltshire county championships.
All three finalists in the round robin tournament at Pewsey Vale – Biddestone, South Wilts and Swindon Asians – won a game each, but South Wilts were comfortable overall winners by virtue of a far superior run rate.
South Wilts crushed Biddestone in their opening game, rattling up 166-4 in 12 overs through Tom Pearce (33), Will Harries (30 not out) and Rob Pittman (25).
Tom Cowley took 2-19 as Biddestone were dismissed for 99.
South Wilts (107) lost by two wickets to Swindon – Harries (left) making an unbeaten 41 and Pittman 24 – but with Biddestone beating the Asians, Pittman’s side qualified.
Cheltenham Civil Service will now be South Wilts’ opponents in the south-west regional semi-finals in Somerset’s indoor school at Taunton on Sunday.
If they get through, South Wilts could face Southern Premier League rivals Bashley (Rydal) for a place in the Lord’s final – provided the New Forest side beat Exeter University.
Sparsholt will also be involved in the ECB indoor sixes regional finals this Sunday - initially against Crawley-based Ifield at Canterbury.
