The ECB Southern Premier League has elected former treasurer Adrian Poole as its new President in succession to Jeff Levick, who has stepped down after several years in the post.
A retired banker and accountant, Mr Poole [left] spent nine years as treasurer, having enjoyed a life time involvement in local cricket, initially putting up the tin plates on Lymington's scoreboard as a schoolboy.
"I played cricket at Brockenhurst Grammar, also skippering Lymington Colts and regularly scoring for the seconds before the advent of league cricket," he explained.
"I played for several local village clubs before returning to Lymington, generally opening the batting for the seconds and Sunday eleven.
"In mid 1970s, employment took me to Jersey, where I enjoyed reasonable success with both bank and local teams.
"Returning to the mainland, it was whilst playing in the Andover Business Houses League that I met Denis Emery, leading to a close friendship of approaching 50 fifty years."
Almost ten years later, he was back on the mainland concluding his playing career at Mottisfont, where Denis Emery encouraged me to join the South Coast Panel. It was here that I officiated at a far higher level than I had ever played at."
A serious back problems led to Poole swapping roles from making runs to becoming a 'notcher' and switching back to scoring, with Calmore Sports whom he has been associated with for the last fifteen years.
He said: "Cricket has brought me so much pleasure, and in return I have been delighted to undertake a number of administrative roles at club, panel and league level. It was after serving the SPCL as Treasurer for nine years, that I was honoured to be appointed a Vice President.
"I am now incredibly proud to be elected the League’s President, following in the shoes of John Wolfe, Alan Bundy and Jeff Levick whose achievements have contributed to making the SPCL one of the best recreational leagues in the country."
