Consecutive defeats by Paultons and leaders Fawley have dealt a serious blow to Sparsholt's Southern Premier Division 3 promotion ambitions.
They are 25 points behind second placed Trojans going into the round 16 derby at Hursley Park, a match they must win (to continue to compete) in the last two games against relegation strugglers Fareham & Crofton and South Wilts II.
It was the day the two Aussies from Newcastle NSW went head to head - Connor Gibson, Fawley's leg spin all-rounder, emerging victorious. He made 36 and was among the support roles for Kieron Earl's whose unbeaten 16-boundary 83 was a match winner.
He was also backed by Bradley Parratt (35) and Sufian Munir (33) as Fawley chased down Sparsholt's 203 with time to spare. Losing Oz Joe Merlino (48) and, way later, Mark (37) and Will Robbins (34) made runs for the Winchester club.
Fawley are effectively 13 points ahead of second placed Trojans, whose match against Paultons was abandoned soon after tea due to a serious injury to teen Liam Longland, now happily on the road to recovery. The top two meet at Holbury on Saturday.
Parley's prospects didn't look too clever either after a new-ball assault by Hursley Park pair Tom James (3-30) and Ben Holden (2-30) left them reeling at 46-5.
Tom Morris ABOVE (50) and Marcus Braggington (34) turned the tide with a near century stand which put Parley back on track at 200-8. Tom Flynn struck a superb 85 of our Hursley's 156 all out.
