Sparsholt captain Jeremy Frith is clinging on to a slender run scoring and wicket taking lead as he eyes a Southern Premier League Division 2 individual double at Totton & Eling's Southern Gardens headquarters.
Channel Islander Frith, whose side have already been crowned SPL2 champions, leads both fields - with 748 runs and 31 wickets.
But he's only 27 runs ahead of Tichborne Park all-rounder Tom Allam (721) in the batting stakes and, with 31 scalps, has one wicket more than teenage Sparsholt team-mate Liam Doran and St Cross Symondians' spinner Mat Perry-Lewis in the bowling statistics.
Allam looks to bridge the run gap at Langley Manor, while MPL has a crucial promotion match against Paultons at the Green Jackets, which St Cross must win.
They beat Rowledge last week to narrow the gap between the clubs to five points, but St Cross will need relegated Trojans to pull off a shock win on the Surrey county boundary if they are to snatch a last gasp promotion.
Ironically, with the championship already in the bag, Sparsholt field their strongest available side at Totton – in their final game of the season !
