Sway’s cricketers, already Southern League Division 3 champions, ended their title winning season with a comfortable six-wicket win over mid-table Paultons at Whitemoor Lane: an eleventh win in eleven rain-cut league matches for the New Forest club, who just missed out on promotion in their maiden 2022 SPL season.
Paultons, typical of Sway’s opponents this summr, were quite unable to resist a highly effective pace attack. The top order was wrecked by Dave Steadman (3-26) after which quickie Hugh Bernard (4-18) went through the middle order. The Paultons tail was polished off by the accurate Rich Thomas (2-29) and left armer Jon Grasham (1-15). Paultons were dismissed for a dismal 114, with only skipper Rob Pike (31) offering much resistance.
Sway’s reply was methodical, openers John Walter (47) and Tim Noble (27) putting on 86 for the first wicket. Jordie Smith picked up a late 4-29.
