An unbroken century sixth-wicket stand between Michael Haworth and George O’Connor pulled St Cross Symondians’ seconds out of trouble at 81-5 and to a victory over Waterlooville, which clawed them out of the Southern Premier Division 2 drop zone.
It was Symondians’ third win in a row – but one that appeared unlikely with half the side dismissed for 81 and overhauling Ville’s 180 a distant dream.
In timely fashion, Haworth (above) recaptured his early season form – he made 83 against Fair Oak and 73 v Hambledon in mid-May – with an unbeaten 57 and found a perfect ally in Radley College all-rounder George O’Connor (48 not out) as the pair added a winning 102 stand.
Earlier, Dave Orchard took 3-16 as the Ville tumbled from 113-2 to 180 all out.
The win lifted St Cross 15 points clear of the drop zone and increased the pressure on Bashley (Rydal) II whose seven-wicket defeat by Fawley had put the New Forest side in second from bottom place.
Kieron Earl as Fawley's match winner, hitting a six and nine fours in an unbeaten 88.
Bashley posted 238-7 on the back of runs by the Turner twins James (54) and Alex (35). debutant Austin Andrews (43*) and Finn Gordon (30).
Earl featured in two significant stands with Brad Merritt (38) and Gurpreet Basra (40) as Fawley race home with seven overs to spare.
