Promoted Hambledon will have one of the Western Province CA Premier League's leading run scorers in their ranks when they launch their Southern Premier Division programme against Fair Oak at Ridge Meadow on May 7.
Matt de Villiers, the 21-year old batting all-rounder, scored 627 runs at an average of 41.80 for top club side Claremont, who are based in the affluent Constantia wine growing region, a few miles outside of Cape Town. St Cross Symondians' Harry Came and New Milton's Harlan Greig also play at Constantia.
De Villiers, who expects to arrive in the UK well in time for Hambledon's friendlies against Bishop's Waltham and Sarisbury Athletic, is a product of Wynberg School and was on the Western Province Academy two winters ago. He had a spell playing in the Cheshire League in 2019.
