ROWLEDGE raised teenager Ethan Martin has been named 'Cricketer of the Week' after his key role in the Hampshire Academy's astonishing one-wicket win over Havant on the Ageas Bowl Nursery Ground.
Initially, Martin, who is effectively on trial with the Academy, sent down a miserly seven-over spell with the ball, taking 1-8 as Havant stumbled to 176 all out.
But it was with the bat that Martin and his tenth wicket partner 15-year old Oli Cordery won the match – the Academy seemingly facing certain defeat when they came together at 79-9, with an unlikely 98 runs still needed for victory.
Undeterred, the last wicket pair threw caution to the wind, smashing three sixes and 14 fours between them in a quite remarkable stand which swept the Academy youngsters to victory.
Martin (17) hit an unbeaten 78 and Cordery 32 not out in the match winning 98-run stand which carried the county hopefuls home with ten overs to spare.
