THREE NEW SIGNINGS FOR NEWLY PROMOTED ROWLEDGE

27/4/2015

Newly promoted Rowledge open their season against Totton & Eling on the newly re-laid square at the Recreation Ground.
Returning to the Southern Electric Premier League Division 1, the club will now be able to benefit from the development that has been taking place over the past two years. The pitches re-laid in 2013 will be used this coming season, the remainder re-laid last autumn will be in use in 2016. Around 60 per cent of the outfield has had drainage installed and been levelled.
It is already noticeable that the new drainage is working with little surface water lying on the surface after heavy rains.  This major ground project has only been made possible by the generous grant of £47,500 by Sport England, supported by significant grants and donations from Waverley Borough Council, Farnham Town Council, Surrey County Council and Members of Rowledge Cricket Club and by club funds.
The SPL side will be led by David Lloyd, who has much of last year’s SPL2 title winning squad available, save Ricky Yates will not be around all summer. However returning from injuries are Will Davies and Ian Metcalfe, the latter playing as a batsman, with award winning Ben Wish donning the gloves.
To strengthen the squad, Tom Gleave has arrived from Chiddingfold and Sam Moseley from Grayshott.  The club have also signed Alex Bloomfield from Sydney Cricket Club, who in early training looks a very useful all-rounder.
Rowledge will again be competing in the National Village Cup Competition. Their first match will be a round 2 tie away to Frensham on Sunday May 17.
