Phil Morris and newcomer Sam Stroud shared an unbroken 86-run partnership which hauled leaders Bashley (Rydal) II to a four-wicket win over Tichborne Park and preserve the New Forest club’s unbeaten start in Southern Premier Division 3.
Bashley’s prospects did not appear bright when, chasing down TPs 229-8, they dipped to 144-6 (Alex Turner 34) – but Morris (73) and Stroud (68) turned the tide in dramatic fashion.
Earlier Ed Primmer (83) underpinned Tichborne’s 229-8, alongside George Ayling (44) and skipper Martin Cheyney (38), with Stroud taking 3-38.
Trojans remain second with a seven-wicket win over Hythe & Dibden, who were dismissed for a disappointing 123, Jamie Donaldson (5-17) and Syed Agha (3-22) doing the damage. Ex-Lymington all-rounder Agha then led the Trojans victory chase with an unbeaten 67.
Sufian Munir hit a match winning 94 as Fawley overhauled Portsmouth & Southsea’s 218-5 (Tom Benfield 52) to win by three wickets, while Portsmouth Grammar School’s Ollie Willoughby struck an unbeaten 59 as Hambledon successfully chased down Purbrook’s 175-8 (Martin Lee 85) to secure a tight two-wicket victory.
Fareham & Crofton came out tops against Lymington II in what some pundits unfairly referred to as the first SPL3 relegation battle of the season.
Fareham, in desperate trouble at 111-7, finished with 237 (Ben White 45, James Headon 42), largely thanks to a huge helping of extras, while Sam Lindsey (5-15) and White (3-21) blew Lymington away for 86. Fareham won by 151 runs.
