Alton's former Academy left-hander Tom South [pictured] cracked a splendid 118 as Southampton Solent University cruised to an eight-wicket win over their Surrey counterparts in the BUCS Championships at Totton & Eling's Southern Gardens.
Striking three sixes and 17 fours, South's opening stand with South Wilts' Jack Stearman (38) took Solent to within touching distance of Surrey's 204-9 (Alex Adlem 3-25), a total they passed with 24 overs to spare. Surrey, skippered by Fareham & Crofton's Dan Wimble, tossed in 38 wides for good measure.
Portsmouth, who rival Solent as the area's leading student team, thrashed Brighton by eight wickets on Southsea seafront, where former Havant seamer Krissie Mistry ruled the waves.
The Ickenham medium-pacer, who finished with figures of 7-15, took four wickets in four deliveries as Brighton lurched to 13-6 before scraping together 98, Burridge batsman James Lamerton hitting a defiant 40 not out. Portsmouth were home and dry in 16 overs, with Havant's Harry Gadd (42) and Luke Barrow (30) completing the formalities.
