Teenager Tommy Cheater celebrated a maiden five-wicket haul before Harrison Clarke struck an unbeaten 60 to enable Totton & Eling to tighten their grip on the Southern Premier Division 1 leadership with a six-wicket win over relegation haunted Sarisbury Athletic at Allotment Road.
Cheater, left, who has been playing Hampshire county junior age group cricket this summer, did the damage after Jack Lovett (39) and Josh Hill (27) had eased Sarisbury to 96-2.
His 5-39 return saw SA lose four wickets for 13 runs and eventually subside to 148 all out, with Jordan Wright (30) giving the innings late impetus.
Totton, who enjoy a 19-point lead at the top, lost four wickets in polishing off the target, but with a six and half a dozen fours Clarke got his side across the line without too many problems.
Sarisbury are marginally ahead of Andover at the foot of the table – the lions’ own demotion fears increasing when second placed New Milton beat them by five wickets at London Road.
George Watts (3-17) and Harlan Greig (3-29) shared six of the scalps as Andover went over for 90 (Nathan Birks 26) – a total the Green & Golds got past despite Babu Veettil (4-13) having them rocking at 31-5 at one stage.
Watts (27) and Joe Hall (25) quelled Milton dressing room fears to keep their own promotion dreams alive.

Calmore Sports face Totton, New Milton and Basingstoke & North Hants in their last three games, but lost ground when Rowledge rallied from 66-6 to overhaul their visitors’ 128-9.
Teenage left-arm spinner Oli Baker bowled immaculately, conceding only five runs off his eight overs, one of which was a wide !
He took 3-5 and David Lloyd 3-26, with Calmore being grateful to left-hand opener Ben Johns (29) and latterly Mike West (30 not out) for their modest total. West hit the last two balls of the innings for six.
Rowledge were comfortable at 41-1 (Sam Plater 21), not so 66-6 after a three-wicket burst by Steve Wright (3-12 off eight overs) and a Mark Lavelle brace.
If you want a man for a crisis, then call David Lloyd, who made an unbeaten 30, alongside the real hero of the hour Ryan Littlewood, the seventh-wicket pair batting over 100 balls between them to turn the game.
The 16-year old Littlewood (left) hit the last two balls of the 38th over by Manning for four and then a six off the next over to get Rowledge over the line. The win nudged Rowledge clear of the bottom three.
