South African left-hander 'ALVIN' Shepang Dittole [above] and Sri Lankan Dineth Thimodya went head to head in an individual run scoring joust in Totton & Eling's high scoring Southern Premier Division 1 victory over Ventnor at Southern Gardens.
Totton won by 30 runs - Ditole winning the 'batting contest' by 111 runs to 98 - and the outcome of the match with it.
The 32-years old South African pitched up Totton last month having made a whopping 157 for the Durban-based Dolphins against the Lions at the Wanderers in late March. He hit 11 fours and sixes in his 111 against Ventnor, sharing a sizeable 181-run stand with James Taylor (74) before Jim's eldest son Ethan cracked 40 off 15 deliveries, all bar eight of which came in boundaries.
Totton's towering 318-5 didn't deter Ventnor from a post team run chase - Thimodya (98) and later Ben Woodhouse (80) leading the way before the visitors lost their last four wickets for 11 runs and were 289 all out.
Despite their win, Totton remain bottom of SPL1, four points behind OTs & Romsey, who lost by 14 runs at Waterlooville.
Ville's 192-8 was largely built around a partnership between Jon Hudson (52) and young Ray Reynolds (45). Ian Tulk took 3-41 for OTR, who were in a good position at 116-3 through Lewis Allen (53) and Aussie Will Blitz (30) only to collapse against teen spin twins Charlie Whitfield and Reynolds, who shared six wickets. OTs closed 178 all out.
