Hook & Newnham Basics are once again in the thick of the Southern Premier League Division 1 title race – but look to have their work cut out if they are to better last season’s runners-up position.
Edged into second place in last year’s ‘winner take all’ title showdown with New Milton, Hook look to be vying with Sarisbury Athletic and Andover for the crown.
Hook appeared out of the altogether after losing their first three games, after which they could barely win a game at their KGV home.
But they’ve put that awful start behind them and have won seven of their last eight matches – a run they’ll need to take into a demanding finale.
Hook’s run, which includes key games with Andover, Bournemouth and then Basingstoke on the final day of the season, is far more testing than the others.
Remaining games -
Sarisbury Athletic
: Rowledge [h], Portsmouth [a], Liphook & Ripsley [h], Bournemouth [a].
Hook: Andover [h], Bournemouth [a], Totton & Eling [h], Basingstoke & North Hants [h].
Andover: Hook [h], Totton & Eling [a], Rowledge [h], Portsmouth [a].

But such has been the variance of results in SPL1 all summer, Basingstoke & North Hants and Portsmouth might still have a say before the final curtain falls.
It all adds up to a fascinating end to the summer ..
