Burridge are top of the ECB Southern Premier League – a remarkable turnaround considering they only just avoided relegation at the end of last season !
They leapfrogged Havant and South Wilts to climb into pole position with a comfortable six-wicket win over basement side Ventnor at Newclose.
They bowled the rock bottom islanders out for 166 and polished off the target, with Joe Collings-Wells hitting 67 not out, writes Mike Vimpany.
The exalted position Burridge find themselves in doesn’t surprise skipper Rick Ankers.
“We’re conscious that we’ve not played any of the lead sides yet, but we’ve god a decent, well balanced side here,” he said.
“Last season we had opportunities to win games, but didn’t drive home positive situations – but we’re now doing this.
“Our top order is scoring runs consistently and Dan Stancliffe is developing with every game and the way he angles the ball is a real handful for batsmen.
“Coupled with that, Geoff Dods (pictured) has brought his successful Cape Town winter back with him and is scoring runs and taking wickets.”
Ironically, Ventnor were progressing nicely against Burridge, but folded after Australian Alex Glendenning (44) and Ben Woodhouse (30) had taken them to 87-2.
Dods (5-57) sent the innings into freefall and Ventnor to 166 all out.
Joe Collings-Wells hit 12 fours in his 67 not out, while Dods (30) completed a fine day’s work with the bat.
