Glen Duggan cracked his fourth century of the season and Ryan Murray celebrated his maiden five-wicket ECB Southern Electric Premier Division haul in the Hampshire Academy’s 72-run win over Burridge on the Ageas Bowl Nursery Ground.
Duggan, the 17-year old Cowes-based left-hander, carried his bat for an unbeaten 125 as the Academy youngsters piled up 315-2.
Murray later returned 5-43 – two wickets with the new ball and three more to mop up the tail – as Burridge were dismissed for 243.
Duggan, pictured by Roy Honeybone, didn’t really need to play the lead role as he increased his season’s run tally to 642 – nine more than South Wilts’ skipper Tom Morton.
He was happy to share the scoring with Joe Weatherley (36) and when Tom Alsop came in at 74-1, it was the recalled England Under-19 leftie who forced the pace.
Alsop, who joins Mason Crane and Brad Taylor in the England Under-19 squad to play Australia in next month’s junior ‘Ashes’ matches, hit 79 and was out reverse sweeping shortly before Duggan brought up his hundred.
The island teenager struck only six boundaries before reaching treble figures – but almost contrived to get himself out twice before the magical 100 came up.
Concentration restored, he quickly moved on to and passed his century and, with Felix Organ clipping a clinical 47 not out, reached 125 before Academy closed at 315-2.
He Academy needed to give themselves plenty of time to bowl Burridge out and it took them 56 overs to do so.
Murray, pictured in action, got the first two wickets before Dan Hewitt (33), Lee Savident (29) and Geoff Dods (32) put some shape to the innings.
Burridge were never likely to win the game and at 134-5 looked as though they might keel over.
But Iain Hardcastle (33) and Rick Ankers (25) took them past 200 before Murray returned to snap up the last three wickets and finish with a Premier best 5-43.
Academy manager Bobby Parks was delighted with the win.
"Though there were a couple of stand-out performances I was most happy with the way the whole team performed,' said Parks.
"Ben Duggan is in a rich vein of form with the bat and Ryan Murray took our first five-wicket haul of the season.
"Ben has been playing well in what is a big first year with the Academy.
"He is moving his game on and has learned how to build on good starts to get some big scores.'
