Havant flexed their muscles for next Saturday’s key ECB Southern Premier League visit to South Wilts with a convincing 173-run win over Ventnor, who suffered a third successive defeat.
Havant prospered at the top as Andy Gorvin (75) enjoyed fruitful partnerships with Pete Hopson (36) and then Ben Walker (33).
With Stuart Ransley as his new partner, Gorvin steered Havant onwards, but his departure at 183 triggered a collapse as Havant lost six wickets for 47 runs – five of them to Hugh Calloway (36). It needed Cam Prentice (23) to fire some late runs to get Havant to 257 all out.
Walker (2-10) nipped out two of Ventnor’s top order, after which Havant’s renowned spin attack took over, with Richard Hindley (3-19) prominent as the island visitors slipped to 84 all out (Andy Glendenning 27).
