Hampshire’s Danny Briggs slipped on a Ventnor shirt for the first time in six years against Burridge – and played a lead role in the 32-run victory that has eased the island club’s ECB Southern Electric Premier Division relegation fears.
Briggs top scored with 92 and later took 2-26 after being introduced late in the attack to nullify any late Burridge run rush.
Ventnor’s fifth win took them 14 points clear of bottom spot.
Henry Bartlett’s run-a-ball 41 provided Ventnor with a positive start, but at 89-3 the responsibility lay with Tasmanian youngster Sean Willis (51).
He added an important 73 with Briggs, who patiently steered Ventnor to 262-7 – he hit a six and six fours- and received some handy late support from Rob Snell.
Dan Stancliffe took a creditable 4-49 for Burridge, whose positive response was checked with two quick wickets at 50, including Joe Collings-Wells (38).
Geof Dods (41) and Lee Savident (51) eased Burridge into the driving seat at 136-2.
But a three-wicket spell by Henry Bartlett, who finished with an SPL best 5-43, removed both batsmen and then Will Steward.
With Briggs then turning the screw, Burridge relied on Jamie Richards (47 not out) to get them a fifth batting bonus point at 230-9 by stumps.
