Dan Belcher toasted his maiden Southern Premier League century as Basingstoke & North Hants completed the double over wobbling Division 1 leaders Sarisbury Athletic at Allotment Road.
His 102 underpinned Basingstoke’s 187-9 and set up an 84-run win over Sarisbury, who were on the receiving end of a Mitchell Stokes century on the opening day of the season.
Belcher did what the bulk of his team-mates had failed to do for most of the season – occupy the crease.
He feared an all too familiar batting collapse when the new-ball spell by Shayne Freemantle (2-24) reduced the Bountymen to 31-3.
But, having shared a decisive century fifth-wicket stand with Martyn James (46), Belcher changed the course of the game with a best-yet 102, which included ten boundaries.
Matt Journeaux (3-21) has underlined Sarisbury’s own batting frailties of late and had more cause for concern as Mitch Stokes (2-23) and James (2-25) got amongst the top order and reduced the hosts to 20-4.
Sarisbury never recovered and were dismissed for 93, with Steve Bucksey wrapping up the innings by taking three wickets without conceding a run.
Sarisbury remain top, but their position as SPL1 leaders at the mid-point of the season was weakened by Andover’s high scoring eight-run win over Liphook & Ripsley.
Defending a formidable 289-9, Andover looked to be cruising towards a comfortable fourth straight win when they reduced Liphook to 146-6.
But then teenager George Neave put bat to ball, smashing three sixes and nine fours in a blistering 89 not out off 64 balls, which took Liphook to 281-7.
Earlier, James O’Gorman (73), Glynn Treagus (57) and Max Souter (50) laid the foundations of the Andover innings – Neave’s 4-71 return with the ball not going unnoticed !
Rowledge saw their top order torn apart by Hook & Newnham Basics pair Shane Brewer (3-27) and Kieran Thomson (2-42) and were 35-6 before Sam Moseley’s unbeaten 75, aided by Jamie Teale (30), helped them reach 151.
An unbroken third-wicket stand between the in-form Thomson (73) and Matt Love, whose unbeaten 50 was his fifth half-century of the season, eased Hook to an eight-wicket win.
OTs & Romsey’s plight at the SPL1 basement deepened with a seven-wicket defeat on home soil by Bournemouth.
Struggling initially at 30-3, OTs went on to post 205-7 on the back of a 127-run partnership between Pete Newman (91) and opener Charlie King (40).
When Jody Brown (2-31) took two early wickets, OTs sniffed a chance, but any hopes they had of winning were ended by Bournemouth pair Martin Miller (89) and Chris Park (56) who guided the visitors home with some ease.
