Eighteen wickets fell for 251 runs at the Romsey Sports Centre, where OTs & Romsey nicked a surprise two-wicket over Southern Premier League Division 1 favourites Basingstoke & North Hants.
The low score game reflected some largely indifferent batting on both sides, neither of whom was able to cope with a slow pitch.
Dismissed for 125, the Bountymen twice had OTs on the ropes themselves before a late order rearguard action decided the outcome.
Basingstoke dipped to 42-4 with only Chris Froud (40) of the top order batsmen remaining at the crease long and it needed handy middle-order contributions from Max Harsham, Martyn James and Chris Jolley to lift the visitors to their eventual 125 all out.
OTs’ reply almost mirrored that of Basingstoke’s innings, with five wickets tumbling for 42 runs.
But sixth-wicket pair Stuart Shapland (29), who had earlier taken 2-13, and Keith Trodd (23) added a precious 43 and double the score.
James and Graham Porter each took twice wickets for Basingstoke, who broke the partnership at 85, leaving the lower-order to get the remaining 41 runs.
Trodd and Jody Brown (17 not out) added another invaluable 29 and the latter was still a the crease when OTR got home with seven balls to spare and two wickets left.
Basingstoke’s defeat means that only Liphook & Ripsley and Portsmouth have unbeaten records after two rounds of matches.
Predictably, Liphook enjoyed a big win over Totton & Eling at Southern Gardens, where two of their promising teenagers hit fifty-plus scores.
Hampshire Under-16 prospect Gab Broadhurst, left, hit a patient 64 at the top of the order and was sixth out at 181, after which fellow teen George Neave applied the long handle and made a quick 55.
It enabled Liphook to reach 263-7 (Salman Ganguly 41). Another teenager, Jack Mellett boxed his way to 52 in Totton’s 172 all out.
